If you are a member of Midway Baptist with an email account you should have received the latest issue of The Midway Messenger with details about the future of Sunday Nights at Midway Baptist Church. If not, please sign up for the newsletter HERE so we can get future newsletters to you.
This Sunday the AM service will proceed as normal for our Family Worship corporate worship services. We will continue to learn our family worship song for this quarter, our catechism question, and worshiping with our families in the corporate body.
That night there will be no PM activities at Midway. We ask that you and your family worship together at home. If this is a new idea for you please understand it is very simple. Pray together, sing a song of worship together, read the Bible together and let Mom or Dad explain what the passage means. If you would like to incorporate more elements or hear from a family about how they do family worship take a look at this short three post series from Ligonier Ministries on how to do family worship. Here is part 1, part 2, and part 3. We would love to see what you are doing. If you are on Twitter please tweet to the church (@midwaybclife) a photo of your family worshiping together with the hashtag#MBCFamilyWorship. Feel free to do the same on Facebook.
What about those who are single? Join in with a church family! If you are interested in participating as a single person please contact the church office and we’ll help match you up. This would be a great way to get to know other members of the congregation!
Sunday, August 25
On the last Sunday of August MBC will begin our new large group study and hospitality group rotation. The book we will be studying is Christian History Made Easy by Timothy Paul Jones. You can buy it online from Amazon (ISBN # 1596363282) or the church office can order a copy for you. The cost through the church office is $15 and the deadline for ordering is Wednesday, August 21st.
This large group study will take place on a different schedule than others before. We will be alternating Sunday night prayer and study sessions with opportunities to show those in the church hospitality. We will also be adding a time of intentional prayer into our study sessions that works through a rotating list of prayer concerns.
Romans 12:13 tells us that Christians are to Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. This time honored Christian tradition has many benefits, not the least of which is uniting believers hearts together in mutual concern. Therefore we want to promote this practice and thus we are carving time out in our church schedule to invest in promoting hospitality. We hope this also serves to make Sundays more restful for the families of Midway Baptist Church. Here is further reading from Lifeway on the importance of Christian hospitality.
The course of this study will contain three blocks of eight weeks. Within each of those three blocks will be four Sundays with time available to show hospitality. During the study you will be receiving a list (picked at random) from the church office with three names of individuals or families connected with MBC that will help you narrow down who to share hospitality with. These are provided merely as a suggestion but we do hope you will be active in showing and receiving hospitality during this time – particularly with people in the church you don’t know well. Feel free to have your meals together in whatever way is easiest (lunch out after church, through the week, etc.) but whenever possible aim for having a meal in each others home. Please also divide up the responsibility for preparing food so that the host home isn’t over burdened.
You will find a schedule for the study and hospitality rotation at the end of this email. We look forward to seeing how the Lord blesses this study and hospitality effort.
